Did you know that vitamin D is essential for our body and psyche to be healthy? And that sunshine itself gives our body vitamin D through our skin? If you didn’t, now you do! When you’re feeling depressed going out is often the last thing you want to do and sitting in the sun could actually help you.
Another fun thing about vitamins is that our body will process out any excess and supplements can help when direct sunlight isn’t an option. I am personally terrible about remembering medications so I try to sit on my front patio or the back yard on sunny days. My mood is irrevocably lifted after being outside even a few minutes.

Depending on where you are in the world there are different outdoor activities. Here in Louisiana, we most popularly have water activities; fishing, boating, etc. In more mountainous regions hiking is a great outdoor activity (we have some trails here too). Anything that gets you exposed to sun and you would find fun, go for it as often as you can and see how it suits you, may find a new joy in life.
Of course, be wise about your outings, have a long sleeve spf shirt or any sunblock of your choosing. Being sun burnt has historically been a deterrent for me staying in the sun because I am fair skinned. When my doctor began prescribing me heavy doses of vitamin D I became more mindful about being in the sun. I prefer finding holistic solutions wherever I can.

When I have difficult days my guy will take me in the sun to talk to me, specifically to help me recharge. I am fortunate to be with a man today who has a lot of patience and compassion. My aspiration is to be in a place of calm confidence, the way I see him. Even in moments of fleeting frustrations he is always seeking an understanding over passing judgments. I am grateful.
While I realize we are not always in a place of welcome and support, the sun is always in the sky. If you can see it, let the sun see you too. And if you’re a person who prefers being home like me, go wherever you can be. If you can find a grassy place is best, taking your shoes off and walking on grass is a whole other topic.
Be well, sweet souls. 💛
